Vito Schnabel earned $ 9.2 million for the apartment's gallery space

“It’s an incredible space with amazing light. The artists love it and embrace it as well,” Schnabel said. “Chelsea has always been a special neighborhood for me, and I’m happy to be a part of its fabric.”

Story Highlights:

  • He had been renting the space for the past year at 455 W. 19th St., a boutique condo built on the site of the former Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. (Schnabel also owns galleries in St. Moritz, Switzerland and Santa Monica, Calif.)

  • We last reported on Schnabel in early 2020 when he plunked down $2.85 million for an 11,000-square-foot, Richard Meier-designed modern home in Old Westbury, Long Island.

The gallery is at the Abi Chelsea, a new construction, 10-unit boutique condo designed by Lebanon’s Raëd Abillama Architects in 2019.
