News Tech: Netflix has been attempting to enter the gaming sector, but its efforts haven’t exactly been successful. That implies, though, that the business won’t go any farther. Netflix may be investigating cloud gaming, according to a recent job offering. All of this is merely supposition, so you should approach it with caution.
This is still in its infancy, so details are pretty scarce at this point. Netflix recently posted a job online (via The Protocol) detailing what the company wants. According to the post, Netflix is looking for “new ways of delivering entertainment that requires real-time, ultra-low latency network transport technologies.”
Investing in cloud gaming seems like a major step for the company. This is especially true because Netflix isn’t the first company that comes to mind when you think about gaming. It was recently revealed that less than 1% of Netflix’s user base actually plays Netflix’s mobile games.
While the post doesn’t directly say so, not many forms of entertainment require “real-time, ultra-low latency network transport technologies” other than gaming. To top it off, the post says that the applicants will be able to “directly impact an emerging area of business.” Netflix pretty much has only two areas of business: Movies & TV and gaming, and the former is definitely not an emerging area of business.
