News Tech: Since 1997, I have used Linux and am here to tell you that it is not only far more flexible, dependable, and secure than the competition, but it is also a lot more enjoyable. I’ve tinkered with the Linux desktop for many days (and weekends) just because I could.

In light of this, I wanted to showcase some of the truly great things that the Linux desktop allows you to accomplish that are not possible with other operating systems. My intention is to persuade you to use Linux in addition to persuading you that it is a truly amazing operating system.

Friends who saw some of the desktops I’ve set up wanted to know how they could have the same look, but were dismayed to learn that their preferred operating system couldn’t pull it off.

So let’s go to those great stuff without further ado.

How often have you attempted to update Windows or MacOS only to discover that the upgrade actually requires a reboot? I personally could use that time to be more productive. Another reason why I think Linux is superior to the competition is because of this. With Linux, I can perform a complete upgrade while still using the desktop. In truth, the only time you actually need to reboot after an upgrade with the majority of Linux variants is if the kernel is upgraded. If not, simply carry on using the OS as the upgrade takes place in the background.

Yes, there is a solution called WINE for individuals who need to run Windows software on Linux. Wine is a piece of software that can be installed and used to run Windows applications on Linux. Although it is not typically installed by default, Wine is present in the default repositories of the majority of Linux distributions, making it possible to install it from one of the many Linux app shops. You may have heard a lot of individuals remark that Linux software is not available. They’re mistaken. Numerous free programmes are available for Linux that may be downloaded and installed via the GUI app store. And you can even easily install proprietary software, like Zoom and Spotify, on Linux owing to tools like Snap and Flatpak.

Although there is a sizable range of software accessible for installation on MacOS and Windows, you won’t find nearly the same variety of free software (and without advertisements). As well, Linux makes it much simpler to manage installed software (either from the command line or the GUI). Even better, you can expand the software you can install by adding external repositories to your package manager. As I already said, Linux allows you to build a desktop environment that will impress all of your friends. In the beginning, I used to spend hours fine-tuning the AfterStep and Enlightenment window managers until they appeared to be from the far future. Everyone who saw my desktops wanted them because I employed transparency and window effects that were unheard of on Windows.

Although there aren’t many Linux desktops that can be customised to look like cutting-edge technological masterpieces, some do (including Xfce, Enlightenment, and KDE Plasma). This is a terrific way to make everyone around you envious, but it’s also a lot of fun. I haven’t had many significant problems in the years I’ve used Linux. Even though I had had a server compromised and a rootkit installed, that incident was an outlier for me. Apart from that, the vast majority of the problems I’ve run with could be resolved in a matter of minutes. And because Linux provides you with all the diagnostic tools you need to address those issues, fixing a problem typically only requires reading a log file.

Linux just functions. That’s how easy it is, in fact. But more crucially, it continues to function. Therefore, do yourself a favour and give Linux a try if you’re seeking for a means to bring the enjoyment, flexibility, usability, and dependability back into computers.
