News Tech: God of War: Ragnarok has received new gameplay footage courtesy of GameInformer. In this video clip, we get a glimpse of Kratos exploring the realms of the dwarves and using his weapons to solve puzzles. In contrast to previous marketing campaigns, Sony has saved its main announcement for a closer date to launch, giving gameplay tidbits and talking about the Deluxe Edition to avoid spoilers. It looks like God of War Ragnarok will be releasing exclusively on PS4 and PS5 on November 9th. This new gameplay focuses on the traversal and discovery aspects and, like the previous entry, is largely based on foot or canoe.

To navigate new realms, the player must rely on his Kratos toolset and work with his son Atreus to find solutions. With the Leviathan Ax you can quickly freeze boiling hot geysers, while with the iconic Blade of Chaos you can dissect pots similar to Batclaw in Batman: Arkham games. Of course, you can also command the “boy” to climb inaccessible places and turn valves. While the trailer showed Kratos and company using a wolf sleigh to traverse snowy regions, GameInformer teased that there are other ways to explore the Nordic realm.

As previously reported, God of War: Ragnarok lets you team up with Atreus and go out and explore the Nine Realms in search of a way to prevent the apocalypse. In God of War 2018, Odin denied access to the realm beyond Midgard. These realms included Asgard, Vanaheim, and the aforementioned Dwarven lair, Svartalfheim. All of these are available for research now, according to game director Eric Williams. Vartalfheim is a region that “demonstrates” dwarven ingenuity, with ancient engineering marvels such as mine shafts, man-made waterways, and sprawling cities, all filled with complex environmental mysteries.

Last week, the publication also unveiled some battle footage for God of War: Ragnarok, touching on some elemental attacks that can be applied to Krato’s weapons. The general gameplay is similar to the prequel. You can cling to ledges with your Chaos Blade and throw your ax to stun incoming hordes of enemies. The Shield of Kratos has seen some major upgrades, allowing players to choose between the Dauntless Shield and the Stonewall Shield to be used in different tactical situations.
