News Sports: With the news that LeBron James signed a two-year, $97.1 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this week, attention is now turning to how this team will maximize those years. . According to Marc Stein, the Lakers haven’t done much this season to push them to join the conversation about the championship contender, but the L.A. senior office has promised LeBron he’ll improve the team. Figure.

It’s a powerful message to send if you’re the Lakers, and one needed to keep your franchise star happy. L.A. previously reluctant to include the first two picks in the future to attract talent. More recently, a deal to bring Russell Westbrook to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield was dropped because L.A. will not give up the two picks in the first round in the future. That would solve two of the Lakers’ problems in one deal: offloading Westbrook after a bad season in L.A., while adding depth of footage and journey for a reasonable price. However, the Lakers don’t think the additions of Turner and Hield will be enough to be championship contenders, according to Stein.

By Stein:
“Anyway, L.A. has promised James that he will indeed continue to actively pursue the upgrade. League sources say James has, in fact, been assured the Lakers are willing to trade two turns. choose their futures in 2027 and 2029 if a price trade in which both options could return the Lakers to de facto rival status.”

Instead, the Lakers are still focusing on finding a way to capture Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers would part ways with first-round picks and Westbrook to take out Irving, but the Nets turned down that commercial offer, according to Stein. Brooklyn has argued that any profits received from a potential Kevin Durant and Irving deal must produce players who can keep them competitive right now, so it’s no surprise that the Nets don’t want to compete. Faced with Westbrook and draft operations. That means the Lakers should probably include a third team in their deal if they really want to team up with Irving and James again.
