In Science and Space: Linux kernel 5.18, which was released near the end of May 2022, is yet another short-lived kernel series. It added new capabilities such as support for “user events” in the tracing system, support for AMD’s “host system management port” feature, support for 64-bit integrity checksums on NVMe devices, support for Intel’s “hardware feedback interface,” and indirect branch tracking support for the x86 architecture.

Greg Kroah-Hartman, a well-known kernel developer, today announced the release of Linux kernel 5.18.19, which seems to be a relatively tiny patch with only 6 modifications. The Linux 5.17 kernel series has officially achieved end of life and will no longer receive security and bugfix updates, making Linux kernel 5.18.19 the final maintenance release for that series.
