Orlando presents itself as a business destination

The tourism figures announced by Visit Orlando on Monday reflect how pandemic restrictions impacted travellers to Orlando. Domestic visitors drove the increase in 2021 over 2020, but corporate and international travellers lagged behind. While domestic visits increased by 70%, business visits increased by nearly 54%, and overseas visitors increased by 25.7 percent.

Domestic leisure trips in 2021 were 85% more than they were in 2019, before to the pandemic. For domestic business travel, the numbers in 2021 were two-thirds of those in 2019 and less than a third for foreign visits.

The US put border restrictions on non-essential travel from Canada and Mexico to combat the coronavirus. Many of the limitations were eased in November, but overseas travellers must still be vaccinated, and air travellers must have a negative coronavirus test.

Orlando began noticing an increase in international visitors after the US lifted certain pandemic restrictions last November, according to Matej.

“We started seeing meaningful interest from our core markets as soon as the terms of engagement changed in November,” Matej said. “By 2023, we expect international to be 100 percent recovered.”
