NVIDIA SHIELD TV now supports 4K HDR computer games

SHIELD Experience Update 9.0 has just been released for the SHIELD TV. The RTX 3080 tier of GeForce NOW adds a slew of additional capabilities, including the ability to stream PC games in 4K and HDR. There’s a lot crammed into this latest NVIDIA SHIELD TV update, but the feature that drew our eye was compatibility for GeForce NOW’s top tier. You can stream the latest video games in 4K resolution with HDR using the 3080’s power and the new Shield upgrade.

The SHIELD TV is generally regarded as one of the best streaming TV boxes out there, so if you’re in the market for a high-end streamer that can do all sorts of stuff (including running 4K games, thanks to this update), it’s worth a look.  SHIELD TV delivers an amazing Android TV streaming media player experience, thanks to the new NVIDIA Tegra X1+ chip. The games also have immersive 7.1 surround sound, assuming you have the sound system to support it. SHIELD Experience Update 9.0 also updates the streaming box to Android 11. While most Android devices are moving towards Android 12, the SHIELD is a little behind. Still, you get a refreshed interface, a new Gboard version, and plenty of other goodies with this update. It also includes Android security patch level September 2021.
