The Dodgers will host a triangular with Mason City and third-ranked Waukee Northwest.
The seventh-ranked Fort Dodge wrestling team will compete in their home gym for the first time in 2022.
Mason City and Waukee Northwest will meet first at 5:30 p.m. The Wolves and Dodgers will be next on the mat and Fort Dodge and Mason City will finish the triangular.
“They (Waukee Northwest) have a well balanced lineup and don’t have a poor wrestler,” said Fort Dodge head coach Bobby Thompson. “Mason City is much like us and is more of a tourney team. They have some solid wrestlers and there will be some good matchups.”
“We wrestled pretty well (at Ames) in a tough field,” Thompson said. “We stressed and addressed wrestling consistency no matter who we are competing against.
The Dodgers are coming off a third place finish at the Jack Mendenhall Invitational on Saturday.
“Whether you are wrestling Southeast Polk or Spencer you have to fight back and show your Dodger pride.”
Second-ranked Dru Ayala (106) and second-ranked Koy Davidson (126) both earned championships.
Ayala (22-2) had three technical falls on the day. Davidson (21-5) had a fall and two major decisions. Eighth-ranked Damarion Ross (138) was second, falling to losing to eighth-ranked Cole Nelson of Perry.
Cal Hartman (160) and sixth-ranked Ben Egli (182) were fourth, while Orion Larson (170) and Kaden Lynch (195) were sixth. Keaton Nichols (285) placed seventh. “We just have to go out and take care of ourselves,” Thompson said. “We have to battle and fight hard.”
Waukee Northwest has nine ranked individuals. Ranked for the Wolves are Koufax Christensen (No. 4 at 113), Carter Freeman (No. 2 at 120), Ethan Mahoney (No. 8 at 126), Logan Stotts (No. 6 at 138), Dominic Rubino (No. 8 at 145), Griffin Gammell (No. 1 at 182), Tanner Spyksma (No. 4 at 195), Cael Winter (No. 5 at 220) and Ben Reiland (No. 4 at 285).
