News Tech: Goa’s tourism sector needs to be revitalized as the pandemic has left a negative impact, Tourism Minister Rohan Kante said on Sunday, adding that the government will support the growth of inland and backwater tourism in this industry. It added that it will focus on developing non-traditional industries. Khante Prime Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant allocated a tourism portfolio along with information technology (IT). On Sunday, March 28, he took oaths with Sawant when a notice was issued allocating his portfolio to eight of his BJP MLAs.
The industry needs reform, he said, which could be implemented after the tourism law changes. He said the state government will work with the center to develop the tourism sector. “We will talk with the Prime Minister and set priorities,” Kante added.
Speaking to reporters, Kante said he had presented a budget that would not collect additional taxes from citizens. “In this scenario, the sector will play a key role in generating revenue, similar to tourism,” he said. Kante said a future tourism roadmap should be developed that focuses on inland and backwater tourism activities. The focus is clearly on ‘quality tourism’ rather than ‘quantity tourism’, a sector he has been severely affected by COVID-19 and needs to revive now added.
