News Tech: The Piggly Wiggly shop in Beaver Dam will now be owned by Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly of Hartland.

Daryl and Brenda Schoenfeld purchased the Beaver Dam shop in 2008. In 1979, Daryl Schoenfeld started working at the store as a bagger. Over the years, he “wore many different hats,” eventually rising to the position of general manager just before they bought the store.

According to David Dickelman, director of selling and merchandising for Fox Bros., it will be the chain’s ninth store and third-largest after Oconomowoc and Slinger.

Fox Bros. will take over the store on Sunday “barring any unexpected events,” Schoenfeld stated on Monday. He said that all 90 employees at Beaver Dam had been given jobs.

In 1988, Hartland saw the opening of the main shop. In 1997, Fox Bros. opened a second site in Oconomowoc. The Oconomowoc store expanded to 50,000 square feet when it moved to a brand-new, cutting-edge facility across the street in 2004.

Pat Fox continued to serve as president and co-owner after Bob Fox withdrew from day-to-day management in 2006. Fox Bros. was later fully owned by Pat Fox in 2010. In 2011, Fox Bros. acquired four Piggly Wiggly business locations, bringing the Fox Bros. group’s total number of Wisconsin retail locations to six. These stores can be found in Wisconsin’s Richfield/Hubertus, Jackson, Saukville, and Slinger. Pat’s wife, Lori, became an active partner in the company as a result of the expansion of the business and the hiring of an additional 325 employees.

Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly has opened locations in Hartford, Port Washington, and West Bend since 2014. Fox Bros. has more than 800 employees. In 2007, Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly started manufacturing its own bratwurst, summer sausage, and snack sticks, which were freshly cooked every day at the Oconomowoc facility. Due to the additional stores and increasing demand for Fox Bros. brats, the manufacturing site was relocated to Hartford in 2018. As of right now, the Hartford factory is where all acclaimed brats, sausages, and snack sticks are made and distributed.

On April 22, 2017, Lori and Pat Fox purchased the company from the Fox Bros. employees, making Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly the only grocery business in Wisconsin that is 100% employee-owned.
