News Tech: The first autonomous smart contracts to ever be deployed on a blockchain were announced by the Massa team in 2022, first in April during the Paris Blockchain Week Summit and then in July during Ethcc Paris. Massa is a brand-new layer-1 that seeks to achieve a Nakamoto Decentralization Coefficient of 1,000 or more in order to overcome the blockchain trilemma. Autonomous Smart Contracts are available for testing on the Massa Testnet as of July 2022.

Building autonomous smart contracts has always been the major goal of the Massa Team. One of the most significant achievements made by the Massa developers is the deployment of this type of smart contract capability, which is now unachievable by any of the existing blockchains. The idea behind autonomous smart contracts is to give smart contracts the ability to “live” on the blockchain, self-activate, and have an independent flow while being used. Without further intervention, they may consume blockchain data and make requests for data from other sources. Other blockchains’ existing smart contracts require human input or automated processes to run.

Launched in 2021, Massa is currently in its testnet phase and has more than 7000 nodes running continuously on its network. It has already accomplished significant milestones, including raising €5 million in a private sale (one of the most decentralised private sales with over 100 participants), releasing its own smart contract engine, and reaching 4,000 transactions per second (intending to reach 10,000 by the end of the testnet phase).

The CEO of Dusa Labs, an AMM structure on Massa, stated: “We will be able to provide the first 100% decentralised DeFi experience thanks to the autonomous smart contract and blockchain hosting of our web application. These technical advancements enable us to handle liquidations optimally, execute our customers’ latent trade orders totally autonomously, and provide greater user security.
