Man who died after handcuffed in business identified

A man who died after being placed into handcuffs by police on Wednesday has been identified by authorities as a Bay Point man.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation into the death of 47-year-old Ivan Gutzalenko, who died at a hospital after police and paramedics were called to to a business in the 12600 block of San Pablo Avenue.

According to police, Gutzalenko was causing a disturbance and was bleeding. Richmond police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said police put handcuffs on Gutzalenko after they and paramedics agreed it was the best option…
