In this article, we’ll show you how Use iCloud Keychain in Windows. After you set up iCloud for Windows, you can use iCloud Passwords to access your passwords in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge through a browser extension. You can also manage your passwords in the Passwords app on iCloud. To use iCloud passwords on a Windows computer, you must sign in to iCloud for Windows with an account that has two-factor authentication enabled and have iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS 11 or later installed on the device that receives the security code. See the Apple Support article Two-factor authentication for Apple ID.

Apple’s documentation explains how to manage your iCloud passwords using the new app, but it’s relatively simple. You can access the app from the Start menu and make any password changes you need. These changes will then be synced to your Apple devices.

It works on Apple devices and now also for Windows users. Although there are differences, like in Windows, it is called the iCloud password. There’s a reason for this, as iCloud Keychain is built into macOS; No special password management app is needed. However, in Windows, there is a special application for managing, creating and editing passwords, that is, a special application for iCloud passwords. let’s start with this article on using iCloud Keychain in Windows.

How to use iCloud Keychain in Windows

Manage your iCloud Keychain

Whether you’re using Google’s password manager, Apple’s iCloud Keychain, or a third-party app, we strongly recommend using a password manager. The beauty of using a Google or Apple solution is that it integrates with whatever platform you use. This includes those who may use an iPhone as their main phone but rely on Chrome as their primary browser.

iCloud Keychain also falls into this camp, and in late 2021 Apple added the ability to manage and use your passwords across multiple web browsers. However, there are a few prerequisites that are necessary first if you intend to use the iCloud passwords feature for Windows.

iCloud Windows version 12.5 or later must be installed on your computer.

Two-factor authentication must be enabled.

Devices that receive a security code must have at least iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS 11 or later.

Use iCloud Keychain passwords in Edge or Chrome

While it’s convenient to have a single app that provides access to your various passwords, it’s not the most intuitive process. Fortunately, Apple recognized this and created the iCloud Passwords extension, which makes it easier to access your passwords.

The only catch is that at the time of writing, you can only use this extension with Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Users using browsers such as Brave or Firefox cannot currently use the extension.

If you want to use iCloud passwords in Edge or Chrome, here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Open up iCloud for application for Windows on PC.

Step 2: Click on Install the extension… button next to one (or both) of the following:

With Microsoft Edge With Google Chrome

Step 3: A new window will appear in your selected browser.

Step 4: Click on Install it or Get button to install the iCloud Passwords web extension.

Step 5: If invitedclick on Add extension button.

Step 6: After installation click on iCloud logo for Windows in the address bar.

Step 7: Click on Open iCloud for the Windows button.

Step 8: Please enter verification code which appears in lower right corner.

With iCloud Keychain passwords enabled in Edge or Chrome, you can quickly enter your account information right in the browser. It’s much faster than having to keep opening the iCloud Passwords app.

Create a new login

If this isn’t the first time you’ve created an account with the web extension installed, iCloud for Windows lets you “create” or add new logins to the service. This is done directly from the iCloud Passwords app, and it couldn’t be easier to set up.

Step 1: Open up the iCloud Passwords app.

Step 2: Sign in with your Apple ID and password. If you don’t have an ID, you need to create an Apple ID

Step 3: After logging in, click on + next to search field.

Step 4: Please enter information for Log in that you save

Step 5: Click on Add password button.

Save passwords

Just as you may have experienced when you use Chrome or another password manager, iCloud Passwords can automatically save the accounts you create. When you create an account for the first time, the iCloud Passwords extension displays a dialog box asking if you want to save the account.

In this case, enter the verification code when prompted, and then click the Save Password button in the dialog box. This will add your account information to iCloud so it’s easily accessible on all your devices that use iCloud passwords.

Update an existing login

In today’s world, it’s more important than ever to not only create strong passwords, but to keep them up-to-date. Many experts recommend changing passwords once every three months. The new iCloud app for Windows makes it easy to update your existing credentials. Now it’s up to you to remember when it’s time to actually update your passwords.

Delete passwords or accounts

It doesn’t happen as often as it used to, but if there’s a site you no longer visit and you’re doing some spring cleaning, you can remove those accounts. As with password management, you must use iCloud Passwords as you cannot make changes through the web extension.

Step 1: Open up the iCloud Passwords app.

Step 2: Sign in with your Apple ID and Password.

Step 3: Choose existing account that you want delete.

Step 4: Click on Garbage To be able to icon next to the icon.

Step 5: Click Delete on confirm.

Final words

We hope our article on how to use iCloud Keychain in Windows will help you and solve all your problems. While this tutorial mainly focuses on the iCloud passwords aspect, Apple’s updated iCloud for Windows app brings much-needed flexibility to Windows users. There are still good reasons to buy a Mac over a PC, but at least now you can access your passwords, photos, and other content without having to find a Mac.
