No sound

Step 1 : First, check if Windows is using the correct device for speaker output by clicking the speaker icon on the taskbar. (Sometimes Windows switches the output to another device without you knowing.) At the top of the pop-up window, you’ll see the name of the speaker you’re currently using. Click on this name to switch to the correct device if possible. If you are using external speakers, make sure they are turned on.

Step 2 : Restart your computer

Step 3 : Verify with the speaker icon on the system tray that the sound is not muted and is turned on.

Step 4 : Make sure the computer is not muted using hardware, such as a dedicated mute button on your laptop or keyboard. Test by playing a song.

Step 5 : Right-click the volume icon and click Open Volume Mixer. Make sure all options are enabled and enabled.

Step 6 : Internal speakers on your laptop still not working? Plug headphones into the audio jack and test again. If the headphones work, remove them and continue troubleshooting the internal speakers.

Step 7 : For desktop systems with speakers plugged into a 3.5mm jack, try a USB computer speaker or USB headphones. (Or vice versa.) If the alternate device works, remove it to continue troubleshooting the original set of speakers.

Step 8 : Right-click the volume icon again and choose Open sound settings (Windows 10) or Sound settings (Windows 11). In Windows 10, in the window that opens, find Related settings, and then click Sound Control Panel. In Windows 11, scroll down to Advanced in the window that opens and click More sound settings. For both operating systems, a new, smaller window called Sound will appear. Click on the Playback tab and confirm that there is a green checkmark next to your audio device (probably “Speakers”). Then click Properties and make sure Use this device (enable) is selected.
